The temperature in a room was 14 degrees below zero at 11:00 A.M. If the temperature starts increasing at a rate of 3 degrees per hour for 4 hours and then increases at a rate of 5 degrees per hour for 5 hours, what is the temperature at 5 P.M.?

14 + 4(3) = 14 + 12 = 26

11:am - 3:pm = 4 hours at 3:pm the temperature is 26 degrees

3:pm - 5:pm = 2 hours

26 + 2(5) = 26 + 10

26 + 10 = 36 at 5:pm the temperature is 36 degrees
