Answer:

a) 484 square feet of ground will be needed to cover with gravel.

b) 14 feet is the length of one of the walls in his room

Explanation:

Area of the square =
A=(Side)^2

a) Length of the side of the square driveway ,s= 22 feet

Area of ground covered by gravel be A.

Area enclosed by square driveway is equal to area of ground covered by gravel.

A = s^2

Area of square driveway = A=
s^2=(22 ft)^2=484 ft^2

484 square feet of ground will be needed to cover with gravel.

b) Area of the square carpet ,A=
196 ft^2

Area of the square carpet is equal to the area square bedroom

Length of the square carpet = s

Length of the carpet = Length of the room of Micheal's bedroom

A = s^2

196 ft^2=s^2

s = ±14 ft

Ignoring the negative value , we get :

s = 14 ft

14 feet is the length of one of the walls in his room.
