first divide the two sides of the equation by 3 to make it simpler:

(3)/(3) (6+8x)= (3)/(3) (6x+1)

6 + 8x= 6x+1

substract the two sides from 6x + 1:

6 + 8x - (6x + 1)= 6x+1 - (6x + 1)

6 + 8x - 6x - 1= 6x+1 - 6x - 1

5 + 2x = 0

substract the two sides from 5:

2x = - 5

divide by 2:

x = - (5)/(2)
