The equations in this sytem were added to solve for x. What is the value of x?

-6x+4y=-8
6x-12y=14

.-16y=6
.-8y=6
.-8y=-22
.-16y=-22

Answer:

x=5/6 but since you gave options in terms of y: -8y=6

Explanation:

When you add equations together to solve for a systems of equations, it because you want to cancel out one of the values, and in this case it's the 6x, since the 6x + (-6x) = 0

Now all you need to do is add the -12 and 4y and you get -8y which is going to be the left side of the equation

Now add the -8 and 14 and you get 6 which is going to be the right side of the equation. This gives you the equation:

-8y = 6

Divide both sides by -8

y = -0.75

Now plug this into either original equation but in this case I'll just use the -6x+4y=-8

Plug in -0.75 as y

-6x+4(-0.75) = -8

-6x-3=-8

-6x=-5

Divide both sides by -6

x=5/6
