Fossil fuels are non-renewable sources of energy. The examples of fossil fuels are coal, petroleum products and natural gas. On burning in the presence of oxygen, these fossil fuels release carbon dioxide gas and good amount of heat. Besides carbon dioxide other gases such as carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are also released. Particulate matter and lead are also released on burning of fossil fuels.
