x - y = x + 2 ( subtract x from both sides )

- y = 2 ( multiply both sides by - 1 )

y = - 2

and

4x + 2y = 2x - y

substitute y = - 2

4x - 4 = 2x + 2 ( subtract 2x from both sides )

2x - 4 = 2 ( add 4 to both sides )

2x = 6 ( divide both sides by 2 )

x = 3
