Eugène Delacroix was a major Romantic painter. Delacroix (1798-1863) was a French Romantic artist regarded as the most influential artist of the 19th century. As an artist, he was influenced by the works of Rubens and the Venetian Renaissance painters. He focused on color, movement, and intense brushstrokes in his masterpieces and took his inspiration from historical or contemporary events or literature. One of his most well-known paintings is Liberty Leading the People (1830) commemorating the July Revolution of 1830 in France.
