What is the gcf of 16,40, and 68

The GCF of 16, 40, and 68 is 4

Explanation:

When solving GCF, I usually like to begin with the lowest number in the list (16 in this case) unless it is completely irrational and does not make sense.

16 ÷ 16 = 1

40 ÷ 16 = 2.5

68 ÷ 16 = 4.25

NOTE!!! If the quotient is a decimal, it CANNOT be the GCF

I then move onto the next smallest factor making up 16, which is 8:

16 ÷ 8 = 2

40 ÷ 8 = 5

68 ÷ 8 = 8.5

This clearly did not work, so I move onto the next smallest factor, 4:

16 ÷ 4 = 4

40 ÷ 4 = 10

68 ÷ 4 = 17

As shown above, none of the numbers contain a decimal, making this the GCF of 16, 40, and 68. I hope this helped!!!
