The least important reason for the U.S. acquisition of Hawaii was its potential as a vacation spot. Ideological interests such as converting the citizenry to Christianity, economic interests such as sugar and the possibly of a refueling station were paramount in American minds.

The correct answer is: B) Many Americans knew it would be an ideal place to vacation.

Most Americans wanted the U.S. government to acquire Hawaii because of the sugar plantations that were on it (meaning they could buy cheaper sugar) and because it was a great place to refuel ships and have naval bases. Christians wanted the islands so they could build churches and convert people to Christianity.
