Solve each system of equations by substitution or elimination.

y=x^2+5x+1
y=x^2+2x+1

I kinda understand how to do this but I have forgotten, please show your steps when you solve it and tell me which method you used.

Answer:

x=0 and y=1 is the answer.

Explanation:

In the substitution method we get the value of x or y from one equation and then we put it in the second equation.

So we take the value of y from the first equation y=x²+5x+1 in the second equation.

⇒x²+5x+1 = x²+2x+1

Now we eliminate the common terms from both the sides

⇒5x = 2x

Now we subtract 2x from both the sides

5x-2x = 2x-2x

⇒ 3x = 0

Or x =0

Now we put x=0 in the first equation

y= x²+5x+1

y = 0+0+1 = 1

So the answer is x=0 and y=1
