Answer:

The twelve table were basis of roman law for centuries, it can be called the precursor to the Declaration of Independence. The tables were finalized in fifth century and were carved on the pieces of stone so that they couldn't be modified by the law enforcers and also to make public aware of the law. There were twelve tables, but the most important one was the Ninth table as it supported idea of justice by declaring capital punishment for judges who have taken bribes and for the people who have committed treason. The tables was the only source of rights for the plebeians. It was based on the lex talionis which meant that if a person is injured by someone then another person should be punished to a similar degree.
