Some fertilizer blends contain magnesium nitrate (MgNO3). Suppose that a chemist has 1.24 liters of a 2.13 M solution of magnesium nitrate. If the chemist dilutes the solution to 1.60 M, what is the volume of the new solution? Express your answer to three significant figures. The volume of the new solution is BLANK liters.

chemist is trying to prepare a solution of molarity 1.60 M by diluting a 2.13 M solution. This is a dilution equation and dilution formula needs to be used

c1v1 = c2v2

where c1 is concentration and v1 is volume of the more concentrated solution

c2 is concentration and v2 is volume of the diluted solution to be prepared

substituting the values in the equation

2.13 M x 1.24 L = 1.60 M x v2

v2 = 1.65 L

the volume of the diluted solution is 1.65 L
