Michelle wants the ratio of daisies to carnations to be 4 to 2. This means that for every 6 flowers planted, 4 are daisies, or of the flowers are daisies.

Let d equal the total number of daisies. Then, d out of 42 of the flowers planted are daisies.

To find d, set up the following proportion and solve.

Therefore, Michelle should plant 28 daisies.

She should plant 24 daisies. Multiply each side by 6 and you get 24 to 12. 24 and 12 equals 36
