4 (b-1) = 3b + 3 substitue for a

4b - 4 = 3b + 3 subtract 4b from both sides

-4 = 3b + 3 - 4b = -4 = -b + 3 combine 3b and (-4b)

-7 = -b divide by -1 for both sides

7 = b


4a = 3 × 7 + 3 substitute for b

4a = 24 combine like terms

a = 6 divide by 4 on both sides


a = 7 -1

a = 6
