Alice and Amy decide to meet at a party. From a corner of the party hall, Amy spots Alice at the corner of the hall diagonally opposite her. If the party hall is a rectangle that measures 100 feet by 60 feet, what is the shortest distance Amy has to walk to reach Alice? Round your answer to the nearest foot

Distance between Alice and Amy is 117 feet.

Explanation:

As shown in the figure attached, Amy spots Alice at the corner of the party hall diagonally opposite her.

If the party hall is in a rectangle shape. Measure of the hall sides are 100 feet by 60 feet.

We know shortest distance from one corner to the other corner is a diagonal.

Therefore, shortest distance between Amy and Alice will be = length of the diagonal =
\sqrt{100^(2)+60^(2)}

=
√(10000+3600)

=
√(13600)

= 116.62

≈ 117 feet

Therefore, Alice and Amy are 117 feet apart.
