Answer:

Equation of motion is given by:

v=u+at ......[1]

where,

v represents the final velocity is measured in m/s

u represents the initial velocity is measured in m/s

a represents the acceleration is measured in
m/s^2 and

t represents the time in second

As per the statement: A turtle is traveling at 1 m/s and is slowing down at a constant rate. it stops after three seconds.

⇒ Initial velocity(u) = 1 m/s , final velocity(v) = 0 and t = 3 seconds.

Substitute the given values in [1] to solve for a;

0 = 1 + 3a

Subtract 1 from both sides,

0 -1 = 1+ 3a -1

Simplify:

-1 = 3a

Divide by 3 both sides we get;

a = -(1)/(3)
m/s^2

Therefore, the acceleration is,
-(1)/(3)
m/s^2
