Solution:

13 × 16= 16 × 13, as multiplication of numbers follow commutative property→ [ Area model]

→→→ Draw 13 squares in 16 rows

or

Draw 16 squares in 13 rows

or

Draw 13 squares in 16 columns

or

Draw 16 squares in 13 columns

or

Draw square of side 16 units or any square of side ≥ 16 cm and cut rectangle of dimensions 13 × 16 or 16 × 13.

In all the cases count the number of squares to get the product of 13 × 16= 16 × 13 which is equal to 208 square units.

Explanation:

Since we have given that

Koda is solving

13* 16

According to question, he used an area model to help work through each step.

So, it can be written as

13=10+3\\\\16=10+6

so, Let the length will be

13=10+3

Let the breadth will be

16=10+6

So, area will be

l* b\\\\=(10+3)* (10+6)\\\\=10(10+6)+3(10+6)\\\\=10* 10+10* 6+3* 10+3* 6\\\\=100+60+30+18\\\\=208

So,

13×16=208
