Answer: 10

Explanation:

\text{Younger sister:}\ (1)/(2)x + 2

Older sister: x

Younger + Older = 26

(1)/(2)x + 2 + x = 26

x + 4 + 2x = 52 multiplied everything by 2 to clear the denominator

3x + 4 = 52 added like terms

3x = 48 subtracted 4 from both sides

x = 16 divided both sides by 3

\text{Younger sister:}\ (1)/(2)x + 2 = (1)/(2)(16) + 2 = 8 + 2 = 10
