Explanation:

We know that is the two angle are equal, the two sides opposite them are equal (isosceles triangle) so both legs of the right triangle are x

Then using the pythagorean theorem

a^2 + b^2 =c^2

where a and b are the legs (which are both x in this case) and c=24

x^2 + x^2 = 24^2

Combine like terms

2x^2 = 576

Divide by 2

2x^2/2 = 576/2

x^2 =288

Take the square root of each side

sqrt(x^2) = sqrt(288)

We know that sqrt(ab) = sqrt(a) sqrt(b)

x = sqrt(144)sqrt(2)

x = 12sqrt(2)
