subtract 22 to both sides to cancel out the 22 and get -4x by itself but also keeping both sides equal

-4x = -16

divide by -4 to get x by itself and keep both sides equal

x = 4

To solve for (x), you need to get it by itself.

This can be done many ways but this is my way.

(+ 4x to both sides)

Then you get

22= 4x+6

This is because you had -4x and you’ve added 4x so now you have no x on that side and 4x and 6 on the other.

To get x by itself (-6) from both sides.

16= 4x

This is because you had 6 on the right but you minuses it and you had 22 in the left and you minuses 6.

Now you have 4x.

To get x, divide by 4.

x = 4.
