The length of one side of a shoebox is 8 centimeters more than twice the width. The base of the shoebox has an area of 72 square centimeter.

Let w = width of the base of the shoebox.

As per given ,

Length = 8+2w centimeters

Area of base = 72 square centimeter

Area of rectangle = Length x width


\Rightarrow\ 72=w(2w+8)\\\\\Rightarrow\ 72= 2w^2+8w\\\\\Rightarrow\ 2w^2+8w-72=0\\\\\Rightarrow\ w^2+4w-36=0
