The square root of a number is defined as any number that can be multiplied by itself to receive a given product. The square root of a number can be both positive and negative, given the information that a negative multiplied by a negative equals a positive. These square roots most of the time will be found in even integers, regardless of if they’re positive or negative. One example of a square root would be 7. Because 7 x 7 = 49, 7 is the square root of 49, which means it can be multiplied by itself to equal 49. One way a square root expression can show up as is in the form of a number inside of a radical sign. For example, √ 49 = 7 can be restated in word form; the square root of 49 is 7.
