A train leaves at 17.22 and arrives at its destination at 18.14.

If the train travelled 56 km, what was it's average speed in km/h?
Give your answer rounded to 1 dp.

Answer:

48.5 km/h

Explanation:

speed = distance/time

distance =56km

time = 1814h - 1722h

time = 52 min = 52/60h =13/15h

speed = 56*13/15

speed = 48.53

into 1dp= 48.5 km/h

Answer =

So first remember the formula:

Distance/Time= Speed.

Now you see how many minutes it is from 17:22 to 18:14.

17:22 > 18.14 = 52 minutes, 1 Hour = 60 minutes. Hence, 52/60.

Then you get your calculator and do, 56 km/ 52/60

So what I mean is basically 56 km *fraction line* 52 *another fraction line* and then 60 in your calculator. Then you will get a fraction then press SD in your calculator.

You should get 64.6153....

Now the final step is to round it to the 1st decimal place, so

64.6|153 after 64.6 is the first decimal place which is (1) and 1 is below 5 so it will not go up and therefore stay the same so, your Answer is: 64.6 km/h.
