Solve for x: 4x – 2 > 6x + 8

The answer is x < -5. Explanation: Combine like terms (ex: 2x and 2 are NOT like terms, but 2x and 2x ARE because they have the same variable) and isolate the variable or put all of the variables on one side (ex: 4x-4x equals 0 and if you balance it on the other side (6x - 4x = 2x). Then do the opposite of 8 (subtracting 8) and do that on the other side. You will get -10 > 2x. Divide 2 from 2x (equals x) and balance (-10 divided by 2). (Tip: if u are dividing a negative number, the inequality sign flips (ex: from < to >). If it is positive, keep it. In this case, you are dividing 2 which is positive. Therefore, the inequality is x < -5 or -5 > x. (Sorry if this is confusing, but I hope this helped your understanding)
