RACHEL:Hi everyone. Today we are going to talk about the short story "In My Dream," by Sarah Parker. Let's just jump right in, O.K.? What do you think the recurring dream meant?
HOLLY: I think the dream represents her own ambitions. She keeps dreaming about ballet shoes, and she doesn't know why. But she clearly has associations with them that are haunting her. Like unfinished business.
EMMA: I agree. The dream always recurs when she doubts herself. It's like the dream is an unanswered question from her past.
NATASHA: But wait — are you sure she doubts herself? I think it's more like she's going through a stage where she's changing a lot and growing as a person. That's when she has the dream.
RACHEL: Right. Let's take a closer look. Right after she gets a new job, she dreams about ballet shoes. When she graduates from college, she has the dream. She also has it when she is experiencing grief, but it definitely happens when she's happy. It's just change that's the big factor, I think.
HOLLY: That's an interesting point. We are out of time, but let's pick up on that idea when we meet next.
