Explanation:

I am going to factorise 3 out from the left hand side of the equation.

3(-4x+y) = -3

Shift the 3 over to the right hand side and turn (×3) into (÷3).

-4x + y =
(-3)/(3)

Evaluate.

-4x + y = -1
