Answer:

Helped slaves to cope with the pain and suffering of their lives.

Step-by-step explanation:

Hello!

Enslaves Africans arrives in North America as early as the 1500s and were used as slave labor to make profit off of crops, construct public/ private works, and serve their captors. Slave songs were a way for those in shackles to voice their desire to be free, examples of this can be seen in "Wade in the Water", "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot", and "Drink water". These songs helped keep their spirits high despite their dire circumstances and helped them complete a long day filled with work and abuse.

Hope this helps!
